Enron Reprised
Apparently, screwing the public is something that some people just can't get enough of.
There's no reason why adequate electricity can't be supplied. Yet, the power companies complain of shortages.
Then they use that as an excuse to raise rates. Thanks to deregulation, there's really nothing to stop them.
To prove that there's really a problem, they flip some switches, power goes out for a large number of people for an inconvenient time. Rolling blackouts.
Aren't we supposed to be at war with terrorists? Isn't shutting off someone's power so you can pretend there's a crisis in order to extort money from them a form of using terror to achieve your goals?
Let's focus on getting the jerks who are abusing us for their beach house mortgage payments, and on supplying electricity to everyone, without artificially making people rich in the process. |
